Government to buy 90 Kg bag of Maize at Ksh 4K from Farmers. “Ukipata Ksh 5K Uza”

President Ruto has disclosed that the government will be buying maize from local farmers. The head of state was attending a church service at the ACK Diocese of Eldoret when he stated that farmers countrywide were free to sell their maize produce at any NCPB branch.

How Much is Government paying farmers for a 90Kg Bag?

The head of state said that the government would buy a 90Kg bad of Maize from local farmers at Ksh.4000. However, he indicated that no farmer was being forced to do business with the government and that if one found a better deal, he or she was free to sell.

President Ruto said, “No one will force you to sell your maize to NCPB. We buy a 90Kg bag at Ksh 4000. However, if you can sell elsewhere for 5000, no problem”

Implying that Ksh 4000 was the best the government was willing to offer the farmer per 90Kg bag of maize currently. He insisted that the government was committed to improving food security situation in the country.

Maize storage deal

The president also said that the government had a storage capacity of up to 20 million bags and that any farmer wishing to keep their maize safely was free to enjoy the service for a small monthly fee of only Ksh 10 per bag of maize.
